When I began training with ABS and Mike Opengari in December 2011, I was very hesitant. I have tried things on my own in the past, but have never stuck with it long enough to see any results. After my initial assessment, I decided it couldn’t hurt to give it a try…little did I know; I was making one of the best decisions I had ever made for myself. With the help of Mike, I have been working out two to three times a week, which is unheard of for me. I have done things in the last five months that I would have never thought possible for myself, including losing 18 pounds, dropping 5 pant sizes, and numerous inches off my waist and hips. It has truly been a lifestyle change. When I began with Mike, he asked me what my goals where. I gave him a number, but my ultimate goal for myself was to wear a very particular pair of pants that I hadn’t been able to wear in four years. Just last week, I was able to wear them for the first time!! I eat better, have more energy, and just feel better about myself all around.

I began working out with Mike at the Gateway YWCA in May, 2011 to lose weight for my upcoming wedding. I enjoyed the workouts because every session was different, so I never got bored, and Mike encouraged me to push myself much more than I would ever do on my own. He taught me new exercises to target specific muscles and even provided me with advice on diet and nutrition. It's been almost a year, and I've lost 35 pounds, 2 pants sizes, and 6 inches in my waist alone! I'm excited to be able to say that my shoulders and back will look fabulous in my wedding dress, and I will even be able to wear a bikini on my honeymoon!

Ever since elementary school I have always been bigger than most kids my age and because of that I was made fun of quite a bit. As I moved to middle school, I used to get really down on myself a lot because of my weight and it caused me to become more reserved and not be as confident as I should have been. I used to be out of breath just walking up the stairs when I switched classes and during gym class I could never keep up with my friends no matter how much I tried. My mother was working out with a trainer at this time, and I really wanted to also because she liked it and it seemed helpful. I then met my trainer Joel Wolf.
After working with Joel for just a few weeks, I started feeling much better about myself. I developed muscles and friends even started commenting about how toned I was. My stomach no longer hangs over my jeans and I can keep up physically with my friends; I can even climb trees now. I have lost about 20+ pounds since I started training. Not only have I gained more muscle tone but working with Joel has raised my self-esteem and confidence levels and I am no longer as quiet or reserved as I used to be; I have gained many new friends because of that. I really wish I would have started training earlier it has been a great experience and I am very happy with the results.

In July 2011 I began working with Joel Wolf, a personal trainer with ABS. I originally signed up with him because I was having no luck at all in getting my weight down, even with walking five days a week, and I felt I needed a little guidance (and encouragement) with my exercise plan. I had been to the doctor in July right before starting with Joel for my routine 6-month blood work to make sure I was keeping my cholesterol in the safe range.
Results:
Cholesterol – 202
LDL – 113 (the bad part of cholesterol – the lower, the better)
Triglycerides – 124
Weight – 151 pounds
I was hoping to see better results since using Lipitor.
When I went back in December, 2011, 6 months later, the results had improved drastically:
Cholesterol – 152
LDL – 77
Triglycerides – 89
Weight – 134 pounds
My doctor had looked at results of my blood work before he came in to see me. The first thing he said was “what have you been doing? Your blood work looks perfect!” I explained to him that I had been working out with a personal trainer two times a week and once a week on my own, plus I had changed some of the foods I was eating, based on recommendations from Joel. He said, “what ever you are doing, keep doing it.” Then he went on to tell me the secret to keeping healthy is staying active. The results of my blood test proves this.
As a result of this training, I also have much more energy to stay active throughout the day and I have dropped two dress sizes.
Besides the health benefits, it’s a great way to meet new friends. I’ve found it lots more fun to work out with a friend than alone.
Whether young or a senior citizen-----there are tremendous benefits from working with a Personal Trainer!!

I began working out with Mike from ABS in November 2010. My original goal was to lose 40 pounds and hopefully fit back into my cute clothes. So far, I've lost 37 of those original 40 working out with Mike and I've gone from a size 12 to a size 6. I have a new goal to lose an additional 3 pounds (so, 43 total), so that means I'm only 6 pounds away from my new goal! When I first started my search for weight loss help, I knew I wanted someone who would push me to get to my goals, and I found that with Mike. I also found it important to have someone to be accountable to and Mike became that person for me. I'm not sure where I'd be with my attempt at weight loss without him. Working out has become something I'd like to keep doing for the rest of my life, which is something I never thought I'd say! Mike was/is a an integral part of that transition in attitude for me and I am deeply grateful to both him and ABS.

My testimonial is slightly different than most, but no less significant. I worked out daily and ate healthy, but I was not a size I was comfortable with. I fell into the category of needing to lose those last 10 pounds. I battle with inner demons when it comes to my body image. When I first came to Mike, I was unable to look at myself in the mirror and I had a very unhealthy view of food. I had a lot of motivation to work out hard daily, but I did not see the benefit of working with a trainer. Besides what could a trainer do for me that I wasn’t already doing for myself? Well, after working with Mike the first day, I could tell there was no way I was working out as hard as I could on my own. After working with Mike 3 days a week, as well as with an ABS’ nutritionist, I was able to lose those last 10 pounds, gain muscle tone, lose inches(including over 2 in the waist and over 4 each in the hips and legs), and gain a much healthier view of food. Although, I am still unable to look in the mirror fully, I have improved and when I get a compliment on my weight loss I finally feel a sense of accomplishment. Anyone who speaks with me regarding my progress has heard me say that Mike has gained so much of my respect and trust.

Being overweight had always bothered me so after much deliberation I started working out with Joel and ABS. When I first started in April I weighed 152 pounds and I have now lost over 20 pounds. I went from wearing a dress size 14 in April 2011 to a size 6 in February 2012. I also dropped two pant sizes. I cannot remember ever weighing this little. Thanks to Joel I have never felt this good in my life. I have more energy and I’m happier than I could have ever imagined. Even though I am considerably young, working out with Joelly Bean changed the way I plan to spend the rest of my life. I plan to continue working out especially during college next year. I could not be more pleased with the results ABS has given me!

I started training with Mike at Advanced Body Solutions (ABS) in October of this past year. The reasons why I began training were many, among them were: I wasn’t happy with the way my body looked, I wanted to loose weight, and I wanted to get in shape. I’m a nurse, and am on my feet a good bit of the time at work, so having good physical stamina is crucial. I’ve been training with Mike for 3 months now, and have lost 10 pounds and about 3 inches each in my waist and hips. I’m in the best shape I’ve ever been in, and I’m the smallest I’ve ever been. If you want to get in shape and transform your body, this is the way to do it. It’s not easy, and you have to work for it, but it’s worth it!

Note: I’m wearing the same shorts in both pictures. They were almost too small this past summer, and now they’re a size too big!

Just like everyone, I had tried to lose the weight myself. I have joined multiple gyms in the past and kept doing what I would always do. I would kill myself with lifting weights, I would do hours of cardio (probably spent 2 hours a day in the gym) and try to "eat healthy". After 18 months of trying to lose weight the best I knew how, the results I had were: 20 lbs heavier, less energy, frustrated and a bunch of excuses why, bottom line I was getting BIGGER! I decided to take ABS up on their Guarantee, I mean really, what did I have to lose? Since I started with ABS, I have lost lost 36 lbs in 7 month, gained more energy then when I was 18 and the confidence to do things I never thought possible. My name is Matthew Taffi, about 5 years ago I weighed in at a staggering 260 lbs.. I was expecting my daughter at the time and my wife and I got pregnant together. My daughter was born healthy and fresh and full of life and I was breaking a sweat just getting up and down with her, it occurred to me very quickly that something needed to be done so I set some goals and started to work towards them. I went to the gym and found myself like most people very discouraged because I felt out of place because of my weight, I worked at it for a couple months and quit when I didn’t immediately reach my goals. Then I met a trainer, he brought me in the gym made me feel comfortable and provided me with the tools and encouragement to get the job done. With him and my new eating habits I dropped almost 100 lbs in 8 months and was weighing in around 160 lbs! I was running around with my then 1 year old daughter and living life on a level that I forgot even existed. This is where my interest in personal training was sparked from, it was this point that made me realize what I wanted to do with my life. Help other achieve this level health, both mental and physical. Since then I have put on a solid 30 lbs of muscle and continue to feel better and better every day. I am now able to do and experience things that I never thought possible and it is all thanks to taking that first step towards getting myself and my health in shape.

After much consideration, I decided to join the Gateway YWCA in January 2010. I was a little worried that this would turn out like my previous gym memberships - rarely used. My intentions are always good but I have always failed to follow through. I was told about ABS and the trainers that were available here and I decided to have an initial assessment with Mike. I have lost 23 total inches and I'm down 2 pant sizes! I have more confidence and feel better than I have in years. Wearing a smaller size feels great and my friends and family have all noticed a big difference. I used to come home after work exhausted, grouchy and drained. Now, I have so much energy and a better attitude!

I joined the Y in the fall of 2008. At that time I weighed 148 pounds. I wanted my goal weight to be at least 130 pounds. Mike gave me the tools to get myself motivated for more change and by the spring of 2010 I had lost 15 more pounds. By the summer of that same year I had lost a total of 25 pounds and many inches off my hips and thighs. I know now that I have the courage to continue eating good things and keeping myself fit for life!!!

When I started with ABS in January of 2011 my goals were high but my expectations were low. I had tried unsuccessfully over the past 10 years to lose weight so I did not think this time would be any different. The changes have seemed gradual but now that I am 7 months into it, I look back and am amazed at how far I have come in such a short amount of time. The quantifiable results are so encouraging and keep me wanting to do more. To date I have lost over 25 inches and dropped 3 pant sizes. But more than the numbers, the difference that I have seen in the overall way that I feel is immeasurable. I have more energy to keep up with my kids and do the things that I have not always been able to do (I even started running again:) ).

When I started with ABS I was 142 lbs at 32% body fat! Now one year later I am 123 lbs at 15% body fat. I lost about 40lbs of fat and built 19lbs of muscle! When I knew I needed to make a change I was in a size 18 and watching my family getting healthier and thinner as they all trained to do triathlons. We seemed to be going in to different directions. I knew I needed to do something on my own so I started to train with Laura. Over the next 8 months I gained the skills to eat better combinations of food and make my way around a gym. I can work out now without feeling intimated by the weights, machines or other people who are working out also. My progress with Laura not only helped me go from a size 18 to a 10 and lose over 10% body fat but I also did my first triathlon in September. I feel like the knowledge I gained has helped me also change my eating habits. These changes have impacted my family's health as well. Our days together consist of physical activity and making great healthy meals together as a family. I am so grateful to her for her patience and knowledge. It really changed my life.

I hired Matt with ABS to help me get in shape for my wedding. The whole experience has been great! Matt makes the workouts enjoyable but tough. He has taken the guess work out of diet and exercise. I’m a certified Personal Trainer with ABS. Last December I had knee surgery on my ACL and meniscus and during my recovery I gained a lot of body fat. So I knew once my recovery was over I had to take aggressive measures against all the fat I had gained. How could I be a trainer and not practice what I preached? So using a plan I designed, I was able to lose 45 lbs in 10 weeks going from 245 lbs to 200 lbs.

In May I joined Sports and Fitness Clubs in an attempt to loose some weight and get into shape. I signed up with a personal trainer because I knew I couldn't do it on my own. After about 3 months I had lost some weight, but didn't really have my eating under control. In August, I signed up for the ABS program. this has made a huge difference! The complete package of a trainer, the daily diet log and accountability is what works! To date I have lost about 33 pounds, and I am fitting in clothes 4 sizes smaller than I use to wear and this is only the beginning. If it were not for this program, I would have given up months ago, like I have donewith other weight loss programs. Thanks ABS!!

I topped off thescale at 223 pounds, about the time I stopped stepping onto a scale in disgust. I decided at that time I wanted a change.Mainly I decided to change because I was starting to have health problems that were significantly unusual for people that are my age. January of 2008 I resolved to join a gym and actually go. When I met with Garrett of Advanced Body Solutions and he helped me decide that I really should consider the opportunity to train with one of his best trainers.

Once I had my first consultation and training session with Brian, I knew that this was going to help be the solution to the problem that had haunted me for so long.

This was me in December 2007, at 25 years old and in the worst shape of my life. I weighed 250 pounds and was well over 30% body fat. I felt so bad. I can remember driving back to the office after lunches, and almost falling asleep behind the wheel because I was so exhausted. I lived on the third floor of my apartment building and would literally be out of breath at the top of the stairs. I was carrying so much extra weight, my legs had trouble supporting it. I also remember sitting in a chair to tie my shoes and "fighting" my belly to bend all the way down. My pants sizes kept going up and I couldn't wear some of my favorite shirts comfortably. When I decided to do something about it, I joined Peak Fitness at Ballantyne. I had no confidence at all. As a matter of fact, I wore long pants and long sleeve shirts to work out for my first few months at the gym. But I kept going, and I was eating a better diet...

This is me in October of 2008. I weigh 183 pounds and am currently 9.41% body fat. I have never felt better. I have energy all day long, and even sleep better at night. This experience has given me the passion and conviction to help others with the same goals. "To show the path, you must walk the path!"

It can happen to anyone. About 19 months ago I had a partial tear to my pec and bicep. I had every REAL excuse to say I will take a mini break from real training. Yea, I went to the gym and did a little of this, little of that, mostly body weight excercises and some machines, but not a real routine. I decided it was time to get serious and no more BS. I put together a workout, nutrition, supplement and cardio plan that was based on my body and what it needed. Not some DVD, Book, and Magazine Article I read, but a thoughtfully laid out program. I worked out roughly 5 times a week and most of them with my training partner Andy. Even though I have been a trainer for 11 + years, I still needed someone to hold me accountable (Front Squats, an exercise I hate and would not have done if it had not been for him). I used all the principles we teach at ABS daily. During my 12 weeks I lost 40lbs of fat and built about 19lbs of muscle. I think it is important for everyone to know not all trainers are born looking a certain way, it takes work! Great thing about ABS, not only can we show the path to Fitness, we walk the path, DAILY!
